ELAC STUDENT CENTER & BOOKSTORE
The proposed 57,380 gsf Student Center complex will house the school's Cafeteria, Book Store, a Multi-Purpose room, Student Government Offices, Health Services Offices, Faculty and Staff Lounges, Student Activities and future office space. Located on the east side of the future Campus Quad, the Student Center will provide a gathering place for the whole college community.

The three-story Atrium, located at the heart of the building, is the principal organizing element of the project. Generous open spaces connect all the levels of the building. The space is naturally-ventilated with generous openings on the south as well as clerestory windows all around the top letting in abundant but controlled natural light.

The exterior of the building takes brick and concrete volumes and balances them with colored channel glass sunshade structures, framed in steel. The glass elements and recessed glazed walls will give the building a crystalline shimmer that will bring a contemporary sense to a classic collegiate building expression.

Keeping with the District's assertive sustainability goals, the project is targeting LEED Gold certification upon completion.

Ehrlich Architects, teamed with EDGE Development, Inc., was awarded the project after winning a design-build competition sponsored by the Los Angeles Community College District's Build LACCD Department.
