LACCD VAN DE KAMP INNOVATION CENTER
With the support of the community, the Los Angeles Community College District (LACC) acquired the Van De Kamp Bakery in the community of Atwater Village with the intention of building a 90,000 square foot satellite campus. Committed to saving the Dutch Renaissance Revival historic facade, the master plan includes the adaptive reuse of 30,000 square feet of the original bakery and adds three buildings arranged around a central courtyard. A separate 2 1/2 level, 240-car parking structure completes the master plan of the 5-acre parcel.

Keeping sustainability as a central planning theme, several zones have been identified to create a "green" campus. For example, use of decomposed granite and permeable concrete paving within the surface parking areas will collect water run-off. In addition, portions of the building rooftops and shading devices incorporate photovoltaic panels to be sponsored by Los Angeles Water and Power (LADWP) as a demonstration project for the community and students.
